Hat

My daughter saw this knit hat while we were kayak shopping at Bass Pro Shop in Nashville after Thanksgiving. We considered buying it, then decided it would be better if I knit her one.

I didn't have any of my handspun yarns in the colors she wanted, so we went to a local yarn shop where she chose yarns she liked.  We also decided to knit the entire thing in regular stockinette stitch. This is how it turned out.  She likes it. I'm happy.

    1. Thanks, Robin. I'm a fan of handmade items. Even though the hat I made ended up costing more than the one in the store, it was a labor of love and worth the extra cost.

    1. Lol, RG! I hadn't even thought of knitting a kayak. But now that you mention it, maybe a kayak cover...
      Thanks for the nice opinion.

    1. Thanks. I was really pleased with how the colors all harmonized, but the photo doesn't do justice to the colors. I chose this one as the closest to the real thing. I tried photographing it with an Ott Lite (http://www.ottlite.com/t-Once-Upon-a-Time.aspx), but was surprised that the result looked nothing like the actual colors in the hat. Hmm. Perhaps it is the cell phone camera.

    1. Haha! Seriously, I'd be glad to make you one. I've also been considering making comfort harnesses for kitties and bunnies, but haven't worked on a design yet. Did I say my mind wanders when I knit??

    2. Yep, I did say comfort harnesses for kitties and bunnies. This is not as crazy as the practical joke knitting I was once asked to do at the museum. Several of our hens were losing feathers and cold weather was coming on. We two interpreters who knit had been making hand warmers and scarves for the historic park staff and the maintenance man commented that the next thing he knew, we'd be knitting sweaters for the chickens. We couldn't pass up the opportunity for some fun, so we put our heads together and came up with a silly idea. My kids had an old rubber chicken and I knit a turtle-neck sweater for it. It was quite a hit at the next staff meeting.
