Scenic North Alabama: Monarch at Huntsville Botanical Gardens

  1. Nice! I love butterflies! I bet it was beautiful there! We watched a Cloudless Sulfur butterfly go through metamorphosis in my house! Are you sure you can't make it down here for the shearing? I hope I can work through it. My brother is going to hold down his llama for me. I will get some pics!

  2. Are you shearing today? I'd love to come and help (or be in the way!!), but it is a 12-hour drive to Cocoa Beach. It would be over before I got there.

Has llama been sheared before? I don't know much about how they typically behave for it. One of my spinning students has lots of alpacas. She is a professional dog trainer and groomer, so she does her own shearing. I've never helped. I know that sheep usually become rather docile once flipped onto their backsides, but sometimes complain and get a little cranky.

Good luck and have fun. Let me know how it goes.

  3. Beautiful photo, I thought a lot about going there again this weekend (great place to walk) but between having to work and thinking of the traffic there...I celebrated the 4th with my kids and some yummy ice cream and chocolate whoppers instead.

The kids and I will be moving to Illinois on Friday (my divorce should be final soon)so my blog will be even more sporatic, but I still look forward to seeing more of your great photos and stories. Smile today. :)

  5. I was surprised she didn't spit on me but she was looking at me like I better hurry up and do what I'm going to do. I think once she felt the cool breeze on her back she didn't put up that much of a fight. The clippers I used didn't hold up very well so I used the sissors. The fiber is so dirty. That's my next step! The color is beautiful. The experiance was very awesome! I am going to try and put up a video as soon as I can.

  6. Daisymum, glad there was no spitting. Maybe she knew you were there to make her more comfortable. :-) Have fun washing all that llama fiber!

  8. Crafty Green: I'm surprised that the photos I made at the botanical gardens turned out as well as they did. I made them all with my cell phone. The butterfly photos were particularly difficult to focus well because I had such a small viewing area. This was the best one.
