Pants da Man

Pascal, known and loved as Jungle Pants, Pants Man, and Pants, weighs in around 20 pounds. He is the biggest cat we've ever had. He isn't just heavy, he's a big cat, tall and big-boned. When he was a tiny, tiny kitten we never dreamed he'd turn out to be such an incredible hulk. He is also one of the sweetest cats we've ever had. At his very first visit to the vet when he was just a tiny little handful of striped fuzz, the vet's assistant told us she'd read an article about brown tabbies that said they typically have the sweetest dispositions of all of cats. I don't know how reliable the article was, but Pants would certainly be a positive statistic that the author could add to his research.

Here is a photo from last year when he was crowding our little Pushkin out of a comfy pile of towels and spinning fiber left on the chair. Pushkin weighed the average 7-8 pounds and had a long, lanky, oriental-style physique. Pants is about 18 pounds in this photo, but is a big hulk even without the weight. Just look at the difference in the size of their heads. Pushkin seems to be saying "Hey, scoot over!!"

Trying to look remorseful after he pushed Pushkin out of the comfy snoozing place

Finally, a little attempt at art with the cell phone

That Pants. He da Man.*

Bad Kitty!!

Just look at this ball of wool roving! I found it on the floor after Pascal (aka Pants) got into the basket and chose it as his plaything.

Here he is pretending to be innocent to avoid getting scolded. How could you be angry at that sweet face?

Now he is trying to be cute to distract me from his dastardly deeds. Of course, I fell for it.

All I could really do was laugh. I haven't even rewound the ball of roving yet. I'm keeping it like that for a while to remind me of how much enjoyment we can derive from simple things.

Sweet Repose

Meet Pascal. He is a year-old brown tabby who belongs to my daughter. He is absolutely the sweetest cat we have ever had. This photo was made shortly after he had come to live at our house. Our daughter had been living in an apartment for the summer before starting her second year at a local university. One of her neighbors' cats had kittens. He was apparently given away, but was returned to the mom's owners. My daughter lived across the hall and decided to take him. He was still a small kitten, although he doesn't look small in the photo the way he has stretched himself out. He seemed so tiny when he came to our house when she moved out of the apartment and came back home just before getting settled in the dorm.

He was about 8 weeks old and weighed three and a half pounds when he came to our house. The only thing big about him was his paws. They were huge. He was not a small kitten for very long, though. It seems he had just gotten accustomed to the other cats, gained some confidence, and was settling in well when he just sort of began to grow and grow and grow. He grew into those big ol' paws of his. He is huge. But he is a sweetie. He loves to sleep in these silly positions, usually belly up. A friend told me that when cats sleep that way they feel comfortable and secure. If that's true, he must certainly feel that way because that's one of his favorite sleep positions. He looks so peaceful. If only I could be so relaxed.

Here he is today.
