I found this amazing photo on the NASA Image of the Day Gallery. It was too neat not to post. Here is the information that accompanied it.
Transiting the Sun
In this tightly cropped image, the NASA space shuttle Atlantis is seen in silhouette during solar transit, Tuesday, May 12, 2009, from Florida. This image was made before Atlantis and the crew of STS-125 had grappled the Hubble Space Telescope.
The phtographer made this image using a solar-filtered Takahashi 5-inch refracting telescope and a Canon 5D Mark II digital camera.
I just wanted to share with you the lovely floral arrangement and fountain that my family gave me for Mother's Day. I think it looks stunning here in the foyer. It really fills the space nicely.
As you can see, our pair of Bronzehounds were a bit upset by it at first, but once I told them they could play in the fountain, they calmed down.
I think the fountain gives a nice balance to our collection of Oriental art.
Those flowers make me think it's time to make some changes to the landscaping at the front of the house. It looks rather bland. Don't you agree?
Just having a little fun. These photos were made a few weeks ago when we went up to Memphis, our old hometown, and visited some of the sites. The first three are from the Peabody Hotel and the last one is the original Pink Palace.
I enjoy art and like to look for it in the natural world. My craft interests include handspinning and most of the fiber arts, especially knitting, weaving, and working with paper. Other important things are my family and friends, my pets, nature, literature, poetry, music, history, birding, star gazing, museums...and the list goes on. In other times and places, I've been an archaeologist, taught anthropology, and worked in a living history museum, so I find all sorts of things to hold my interest and keep me entertained. I hope to share some of these things with you.
