What We Have Here

is Yogi in full molt. I comb and comb and comb and comb. The other two buns make molting rather easy on me. Not so with Mr. Rexie. It brings back memories of all the years I saved Periwinkle's fur and blended it with wool for spinning. I called it Winkle Wool. Rex fur works like Angora, but is shorter. I believe that Yogi is producing a bumper crop of Yogi Wool.

  2. You are so right about it getting up your nose! I hardly ever spin angora because of its airy quality. It escapes as I spin it and I spend most of my spinning time just getting off my nose and out of my eyes. I think it is even worse with the Rex version because it is so much shorter.

    2. Lol! Laura, I can only comb him for short periods of time because the fur flies so much. These buns can really generate plenty of loose hair and it is fine and fly-away, but oh, so soft.

  4. I had a mini-Rex many years ago--oh, the fur he shed! Wonderfully soft, but it stuck to EVERYTHING! He shed constantly, too--much like Mr. Mick does. I wish I could make yarn out of Mick's fur, but I'm saving up what I can because I'm going to try felting it.

    1. I'm sure it will felt well. A few years ago, I bought some dyed Angora roving to spin. The colors were beautiful, but unfortunately, somewhere in the dyeing process too much agitation (or something) occurred that felted the long strips of roving and I had a terrible time getting the fiber separated in order to spin it.

  9. I've often wndered if it bothers them when they are shedding that much, but they don't appear to be. They do seem to enjoy being combed--most of the time.

  11. How very cute and fuzzy, makes me want to just hug Yogi. I'm sure you give him lots of that and brushing does take forever but it's a form of love too.
    Smile today. :)
