I Meant to...

I finally sat down to finish up my posts about my trips West this past summer. Well, as most of you know, I'm quite behind on writing any posts and reading those of other bloggers. My apologies to those of you that I seem to have neglected. I still love all of you. And, no, I have not given up blogging for Facebook. I've just become lethargic and reluctant to break out the laptop in order to get posts written. Using the iPhone is much easier--sometimes. There are glitches in the Blogger app that annoy me. It probably works fine. I am most likely the cause of the glitches. However, most of the photos that I care to post are on my phone and it is much less trouble for me to use the phone, despite the fact that I have to use a tiny keyboard, to write the posts than trying to go back and forth between the phone and the laptop. And the laptop has an annoying feature of having an super sensitive mouse thingy area, so that whenever my thumb(s) hover even slightly too close to the surface, the silly cursor jumps all over the screen and ends up anywhere other than where it needs to be. I don't catch this until I have typed a few letters and realize that they are not in the line in which I am typing. Then I have to find and fix the intrusive letters that have just been inserted into previous lines. How annoying! I do not need this, so I usually use my phone for whatever computer chores need doing or whatever Internet entertainment I choose to pursue. So...

So. I began by doing a little catching up on the blogs of some of my Blogiverse friends. That took more time than I intended, so now it is later than I care to be up hunched over the laptop. Yes, I'm on the laptop. It is much more comfortable to sit or lie down and use the iPhone in order to do these things. I have grown truly lazy. Even better, the cat can also curl up beside me instead of trying to squeeze her way into my lap between me and the laptop keyboard. So...

As I pondered the time it took and what I originally intended to do when I broke out the laptop, the words "I meant to do my work today" popped into my head and I thought of a poem that I had to learn in elementary school. Probably in Mizz Corinne's fourth grade.  I could remember about the first three lines, so I looked it up. It is so the story of why I never get anything done. It is in the public domain, so (yes, that word again), here it is:

I Meant to Do My Work Today
     by Richard Le Gallienne  (1866-1947)

I meant to do my work today--
But a brown bird sang in the apple tree,
And a butterfly flitted across the field,
And all the leaves were calling me.

And the wind went sighing over the land,
Tossing the grasses to and fro,
And a rainbow held out its shining hand--
So what could  do but laugh and go?

My place is in your lap. You will put the computer down.
